On June 18, Kia Motors Chairman Yoo Chong-Yul met with Ford Chairman Wayne Booker
in Tokyo, Japan, to reaffirm Ford's intention to invest in Kia and push ahead with plans to
strengthen technical ties between the two automakers.
Following the meeting, Ford announced its intention to shortly dispatch an inspection team
to examine Kia's production facilities, quality, and productivity in advance of formal negotiations
over Kia's selection as an OEM supplier for Ford's B-III compact now in development.
During the trip, Yoo also paid a visit to Japanese trading company and Kia capital partner
Itozu to discuss active support for Kia. The discussions involved the participation of both
Itozu and Ford, and confirmed the intention of these companies to actively participate in
Kia's present plans.
In its upcoming visit, the Ford plant inspection team will examine Kia's production facilities
at the Asan Bay Plant and hold discussions with Kia management as closer Kia-Ford ties
get actively underway.
