The CEO of the Hyundai-Kia Motor Company visited president Abdurrahman Wahid at his presidential palace in downtown Jakarta, Indonesia on the afternoon of the 4th. They agreed to restart production plans in the local factory in Indonesia in September at a full-scale operation.
Accordingly, Kia Motors Corp. initiated an emergency working system to supply 30,000units "Sephias annually as the initial stage from October by pushing forward to build a factory located in Cikampek close to Jakarta, which shows about 75% of progress currently.
The visit of Chairman Chung gives serious meaning in that he obtained the start of operation for October by visiting the president himself showing his desire to realize the operation of the local assembly factory as soon as possible. The visit was in response to the visit of President Wahid to Kia's Hwasung factory in February.
Improvement of mutual trade and the increase in cooperative relations and friendship will bear fruit for this project due to the support of both governments.
As Kia became a member of Hyundai, the management of the company was stabilized, therefore increasing hope to re-implement the Indonesian project. Direct and indirect assistance from both governments were crucial to the project. As Wahid visited Kia's Hwasung factory in February 2000 the project became more active. From Chairman Chung's visit, the desired start of the production in October had been achieved.
