Kia Motors has disclosed that it will participate in the ‘9th Shanghai International Motor Show’ to be held in Shanghai, China from the 18th to 24th.
Kia had secured a 496 m2 exhibition ground in the motor show, and will display a total of nine models including Optima, Spectra, Pride, Sportage, Carnival, Carens, Pride and others.
Kia explained that along with its Pride currently being manufactured & sold in Shanghai, Rio that’s soon to be manufactured and sold in Shanghai and Carnival that will be in Shanghai automobile market from this September are winning particular interests and popularity from the audience.
In the light of China’s opening its automobile market soon after its WTO sign-up, it’s worthwhile to pay attention to the heated publicity competition among the carmakers of different nationality in the 2001 Shanghai Motor Show. Especially the introduction of new products and technology by each automobile companies reflects well the degree of interest and heat focused in the Chinese market.
Shanghai Motor Show opens every two years, and it’s estimated that 700 companies from 21 different countries will participate to show off their products to about 300,000 audiences this year.
The Chinese market promises to become the world’s largest automobile industry of over 50 million cars by the year 2010. In hopes to successfully preoccupy the market and to secure the base to become one of the top five carmakers in the world, Kia and Hyundai Motors had established ‘Jiangsu Hyundai Kia Yueda Motor Co., Ltd.’ in a 50:50 limited partnership with the Chinese enterprise Jiangsu Yueda Group in September of last year. And the partners have already decided to increase their 25,000-per-year manufacturing capacity to 150,000 by injecting US$300 million by the end of next year.
They (Hyundai and Kia) are currently manufacturing their Pride in the assembly facility stationed in Jiangsu, Yancheng, and their compact car Rio will join its sister car from September of this year.
