Kia and Hyundai rated No. 1 in car maintenance skills

The car maintenance skills of Hyundai Motors and Kia Motors have been proved the best in the world.
Hyundai and Kia announced that 3 of their technicians participated in the car maintenance skills competition at the 2001 Seoul 36th World Skills Competition, held recently at COEX in Samseong-dong (Sept. 13~16). All three participants were awarded the gold medal in their respective field, and the two motor giants’ car maintenance skills were recognized as the world’s best.
The competition included over 500 skilled technicians from 35 countries, including 12 countries in Asia, 16 countries in Europe, 3 countries of the American continent, 2 countries in Oceania and 2 countries in Africa, as well as Hyundai and Kia. Yi Jong-ho (aged 20) and Seo Bo-deok (aged 20), both from Hyundai, and Kim Gwang-sik (aged 20), from Kia, were awarded gold medals for car maintenance, car body repair and car painting, respectively.
In all 3 car-related categories, out of a total of 45 categories, Hyunda and Kia captured the gold medal, beating out technicians from 24 countries. By winning 20 out of the 51 gold medals, Korea proved itself to be an exceptional skills-oriented country. The World Skills Competition, hosted by the Organizing Committee of the World Skills Competition, is held once every 2 years, with the 37th World Skills Competition to be held in Switzerland in 2003.
Hyundai Motors and Kia Motors invited all delegates who participated in the Competition to visit the Hyundai Asan plant and Kia Sohari plant, and gave them guided tours of their respective car assembly lines on the 17th and 18th.
