Mahathir Mohamad, the Malaysian Prime Minister participated in the launching event. This event is a first for Kia, in which the Spectra, a new model made available to the public in Malaysia was promoted. It is manufactured completely with the knock-down (KD) method. The event was held at the Naza World Showroom in a local branch in the evening of Oct. 3rd with over 1,000 participants from local and overseas regions including Mahathir Mohamad, Malaysian Prime Minister, Lee Young-min, Korean Ambassador to Malaysia and Byung Jae Park, Vice Chairman of Hyundai-Kia Motors.
In his congratulatory speech, the Prime Minister applauded, “The newly released Spectra demonstrated again the superiority of Korean cars”. He continued, “I wish that more active investment and support by Korean car companies including Kia Motors will be materialized in the near future”.
The export of the Spectra model has commenced using the knock-down (KD) method since March this year. Production of the finished car in this local area has been underway since June. The knock-down (KD) production capacity in Malaysia amounts to 10 thousand cars per year and a total of 2,120 cars will be scheduled for production this year.
In the morning of the same day, the opening of a new showroom and a launching event for the Rio & Carens models was held in Puchong, Malaysia. This event progressed with about 50 participants including Park, Vice Chairman of Hyundai-Kia Motors. and local branch staff members. After the event, Vice Chairman Park met with Richard Hull, President of the Australian Branch and Budiarto Halim, President of the Indonesian Branch to discuss branch issues.
