Hyundai Motor Group’s construction firm, Amco is to offer an experience-the-field program for its employees at the headquarters.
As the number of construction sites increases at home and abroad amid the rapid development of the company, Amco (Representative Director: Kim Chang-hee. www.amco.co.kr) said it will implement an experience-the-field program to build a cooperative system between the headquarters and the construction fields to facilitate communication.
The program to be provided through ten rounds by the end of this year, will invite 150 employees of team leader or lower levels at the headquarters to six construction sites: Ulsan Hyundai Motor site; Namyang Research Center; Yangjae-dong R&D Center; Hwaseong Kia Motor site; Hyundai INI/HYSCO Dangjin site; and Amco Town in Samsan-dong, Bupyeong.
Instead of being implemented just for the sake of formality, the program is designed to enable the participants to have real hands-on field experiences under the same conditions of field workers.
The program participants will be involved in materials and equipment carry-in, identification of carry-in/out status, construction progress check and management, meetings with customers and suppliers, and other practitioners’ jobs. They are also obliged to identify problems on the field and propose improvement points to the headquarters.
Hur Jun-woo, Assistant Manager of Construction Project Sales Team who participated in the program through the first round proposed to improve working conditions for those at Namyang Research Center site by noting that they are required to start a new project right after completing a project without having time for refresh, and came up with various compensation measures. Hong Sun-sang, Manager of Construction Management Team who was dispatched to Hwaseong Kia Motor site proposed to work with customers throughout design and planning, construction period estimation, and planning and budgeting phases to cut costs and shorten a construction period.
In particular, Manager Hong noted, “The company should take the lead in shortening a construction period and cutting costs in projects to build typical buildings by creating a standard drawings and specifications.”
A company official said, “The efforts to identify grievances suffered on the fields and improvement points are expected to encourage those at the headquarters to offer proactive supports to those working at construction sites and help them make improvements.” “It generates synergies between the headquarters and construction sites, while laying the foundation for the company to become one of the top ten construction companies in Korea by 2010,” said he.
