76,226 Kia vehicles sold overseas in April
- Sales in Europe, general market, and North America post 13.7%, 8.8% and 2.4% year-on-year growth, respectively, in April
(SEOUL) May 2, 2006 -- Kia Motors Corporation announced today that its overseas retail sales of passenger cars and light trucks in April 2006 recorded 76,226 units, representing an 7.8% year-on-year increase.
By region, Europe continued its steady growth with 28,333 units sold in April for a 13.7% rise over the same period of last year. Meanwhile, sales of Kia vehicles in the general market and North America recorded 17,207 units (8.8% year-on-year increase) and 30,686 (2.4% year-on-year increase), respectively.
Cumulatively through the first four months of 2006, Kia’s overseas sales have risen by 6.2% year-on-year to reach 269,033 units, with Europe showing the largest gain at 10.1%. Meanwhile, the general market and North America have seen sales increase by 5.8% and 2.6%, respectively, from January to April of this year.
So far in 2006, Kia’s RV models have sparked the company’s growth, posting a 16% increase in overseas sales compared to the first four months of last year and accounting for 44% of Kia’s total overseas sales for the period. The Sorento SUV was the company’s leading seller from January through April of 2006, with 40,726 units sold.
Meanwhile, Kia passenger cars accounted for 50% of all vehicles sold in overseas markets, with the C-segment Cerato (also known as ‘Spectra’ in some markets) leading the way with 38,734 units sold, making it Kia’s second best selling vehicle overseas through the month of April.
