By forging a sistership with the Myungjin Welfare Center for Children in Cheonho-dong, Gangdong-gu on February 24, Hyundai Motor Group’s construction firm, Amco (Representative Director: Kim Chang-hee. www.amco.co.kr) said it held a ceremony in which the company pledged to provide support and conduct voluntary activities on a continual basis.
Established in 1928, the Myungjin Welfare Center for Children has continuously taken care of nearly 90 children and youth aged under 18, who were unwillingly separated from their parents, to nurture them to become healthy members of society.
After the sistership bonding ceremony, about 40 employees of Amco’s Business Support Division, Finance Division and Office of Planning presented 40 Korean chess boards to the children and offered other voluntary services
The employees were split into three groups to clean rooms and do laundry and then afterwards played with the pre-school children and provided tutoring.
Amco has been expanding the scope of its volunteer activities, as it contributed 7,000 goods to Beautiful Store and made donations to the Beautiful Foundation.
Currently, the company is proceeding with ▲volunteer activities: voluntary services conducted at every third Saturday of a month (under the sistership with a welfare institute, etc.) ▲assistance for the underprivileged: rice sharing ▲supports for juvenile family heads to sustain their lives independently: donation and other support activities ▲blood donation for child cancer patients.
Amco intends to institutionalize donation and other CSR activities as events participated by all employees. The company explains that it will make enterprise efforts to encourage employees to offer voluntary services with the sense of responsibility.
By designating every third Saturday of each month as Voluntary Service Day, Amco plans to provide the welfare facility with the unique types of services that a construction company can offer such as papering and painting. The Business Support Division, Finance Division and Office of Planning had already been scheduled to provide voluntary services in February, followed by the Civil Engineering Group in March, the Construction Group in April, and the Housing & Development Group in May.
