- 108,673 Kia vehicles sold globally in May
- Sales in North America, Europe, China, general markets and Korea post year-on-year sales growth of 7.5%, 0.6%, -25.7%, 4.3% and 3.4%, respectively
- Cumulative sales pass the half million mark reaching 507,212, an increase of 0.9% year-on-year
(SEOUL) June 12, 2007 -- Kia Motors Corporation announced today that its global sales (export sales, domestic sales and sales from overseas plants) of passenger cars, recreation vehicles (RVs) and light trucks in May 2007 recorded 108,673, representing a 0.7% year-on-year increase.
By region, North America posted a year-on-year sales increases of 7.5% in May with 31,801 units sold. Meanwhile, sales of Kia vehicles in Europe, China, Korea and the general markets were 29,021 units (0.6% year-on-year increase), 8,690 units (25.7% year-on-year decrease), 23,008 units (3.4% year-on-year increase) and 16,153 units (4.3 % year-on-year increase), respectively.
Cumulatively through the first five months of 2007, Kia’s global sales have increased by 0.9% year-on-year and passed the half million sales mark, recording 507,212 units. The North America market continues to experience the largest gain selling 140,954 units to date, a 7.4% increase, while the Korea market showed cumulative year-on-year sales growth of 5.1%, selling 88,627 units. The Europe market and general markets are also performing well showing only small cumulative year-on-year sales declines of 0.9% and 0.2%, respectively.
So far in 2007, Kia’s best selling model in export markets has been the C-segment Cerato (known as ‘Spectra’ in some markets) with 81,053 units sold, followed by the A-segment Picanto with 49,020. Meanwhile, Kia’s Sportage compact SUV and B-segment Rio continue to perform well, selling 48,770 and 45,580 units, respectively. The Carnival MPV (known as ‘Sedona’ in some markets) is Kia’s fifth strongest selling model with 38,072 units sold.
By vehicle category sold, Kia’s passenger cars sold 51,625 units in May, a decrease of 1.4% year-on-year. Sales of passenger cars have shown cumulative year-on-year sales growth of 4.2%, however, reaching 236,657 units sold in 2007. Cumulative sales of its RVs reached 31,021 in May, a 5.7% year-on-year increase and reached 145,299 for the year to date.
