- 102,255 Kia vehicles sold globally in August
- Sales in North America, Europe, China, general markets and Korea post year-on-year sales growth of 5.3%, 8.9%, -11.3%, 10.4% and 51.3%, respectively
- Cumulative sales reach 820,004 units, an increase of 1.7% year-on-year
(SEOUL) September 14, 2007 -- Kia Motors Corporation announced today that its global sales (export sales, domestic sales and sales from overseas plants) of passenger cars, recreation vehicles (RVs) and light trucks in August 2007 recorded 102,255 units, representing a 13.2% year-on-year increase.
By region, the Kia’s domestic Korean market posted a year-on-year sales increase of 51.3% in August with 23,006 units sold. Meanwhile, sales of Kia vehicles in North America, Europe, China and general markets were 29,530 units (5.3% year-on-year increase), 25,020 units (8.9% year-on-year increase), 7,992 units (11.3% year-on-year decrease) and 16,707 units (10.4% year-on-year increase), respectively.
Cumulatively through the first eight months of 2007, Kia’s global sales increased by 1.7% year-on-year and reached 820,004 units. The Korea market has experienced the largest gain selling 176,661 units to date, a 6.1% increase, while the North America market and general markets both showed cumulative year-on-year sales growth of 5.4%, selling 230,747 and 122,286 units, respectively. The Europe market is also performing well, showing a cumulative year-on-year sales increase of 0.3%.
So far in 2007, Kia’s best selling model in export markets has been the C-segment Cerato (known as ‘Spectra’ in some markets) with 122,533 units sold, followed by the Kia’s Sportage compact SUV (81,573 units) and A-segment Picanto (77,959 units). The B-segment Rio and the Sorento mid-size SUV continue to perform well, with 77,397 and 61,733 units sold, respectively. Meanwhile, the C-segment cee’d, Kia’s first car designed and built by and for Europeans, was the fourth best selling model in all of Kia’s export markets in August with 8,416 units sold.
By vehicle category sold, Kia’s passenger cars sold 46,880 units in August, an increase of 26.7% year-on-year. Sales of passenger cars have also shown cumulative year-on-year sales growth of 28.6%, reaching 381,397 units sold in 2007. Cumulative sales of its RVs reached 239,868, representing growth of 3% year-on-year, while 29,808 RV units were sold in August, a 12.9% increase year-on-year.
Yong-Hwan Kim, Senior Executive Vice President and COO of Kia Motors Corporation, said, “August is traditionally a slower month for sales, but Kia has returned its strongest month this year comparing year-on-year figures. Passenger car sales continue to perform very well, boosted by the growing number of cee’d sales, which recently became the first Korean car to receive a 5-star safety rating from Euro NCAP.”
