프린트- Reinforcing the development of the "Integrated Vehicle Control System" with the development of an advanced electronic braking system
- Scheduled to mass-produce the nation's first ABS for commercial vehicles in mid-2008
Hyundai Mobis announced on February 26 that it had recently completed the development of advanced models for ABS (Anti-Lock Brake System) and ESC (Electronic Stability Control), which are cutting-edge electronic braking systems, as well as an advanced ABS for commercial vehicles. The company has been conducting tests for full-fledged commercial production.
In the case of the ABS, the size of which has been reduced by up to 30% compared with some earlier models, Hyundai Mobis will complete its commercial manufacturing system in China and launch full-fledged production starting from the first half of this year.
It has been decided that the ABS for commercial vehicles will be applied to Hyundai Motor's models such as Mighty and County from mid-2008 and various performance tests have already been completed. Hyundai Mobis plans to name this braking system the "MEB (Mobis Electronic Brake)" as its own independent brand.
In particular, this ABS for commercial vehicles developed for the first time in Korea features outstanding braking performance and reduced noise and inexpensive prices, compared to products by leading foreign companies currently available on the market. Therefore, Hyundai Mobis' product will have competitiveness not only in the domestic, but also foreign commercial vehicle ABS markets. It will also generate import substitution benefits worth KRW 100 billion annually over the coming five years.
Hyundai Mobis is focusing on the development of the electronic braking system, as this technology advances the development of the "Integrated Vehicle Control System."
The "Integrated Vehicle Control System" is a concept that combines the "Active Safety System" that pre-empts vehicle collisions. The integrated system include the "Unified Chassis Control System" technology, which integrates and controls individual systems such as braking, steering, and suspension systems, thereby securing the optimal running safety; and the "Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)" which maintains a certain safe distance from the vehicle ahead, thereby reducing the risks of vehicle collisions.
As such, the "Integrated Vehicle Control System" is a "dream system" that controls various electronic systems with a single ECU (Electronic Control Unit), thereby protecting the safety of passengers under any driving conditions and reduces costs by sharing various standard sensors and control units.
The industry forecasts that when this system is commercialized, it will not only enhance the safety of passengers by reducing traffic accidents, but also reduce domestic social costs generated by traffic accidents, which is estimated at KRW 15 trillion annually, by about 20%.
Hyundai Mobis is further spurring the development of the "Integrated Vehicle Control System," as it is securing core technologies for this system with the development of advanced electronic braking systems, while developing the integrated system in connection with the MDPS (Motor-Driven Power Steering)," which Hyundai Mobis has been producing since 2006, and air suspension and high-tech airbag technology, which Hyundai Mobis has recently been providing to Genesis, Hyundai Motor's new sedan.
Meanwhile, in an IR session, Hyundai Mobis announced that it would increase the production capacity of the electronic braking system (ABS-ESC), which currently stands at 2 million units domestically, to 2.87 million in Korea and abroad by 2009, and also increase the production capacity of the MDPS, which currently stands at 800,000 annually, to 1.6 million by 2010.
