AMCO will fortify project competitiveness by maximizing its technological capacity. In addition, research and development will be pursued in full-scale by establishing research institute equipped with specialized experimental building by 2015.
AMCO (Representative: Kim, Chang Hee; Cho, Wie Geon - www.amco.co.kr.), general construction company of Hyundai Motor Group of Companies, announced that the company has recently established technological research institute within the headquarters of Hyundai Motors in Yangjae-dong as one of measures to secure research & development capacity and establishment of technological management system.
Technology Research Institute of AMCO is composed of total of 10 research personnel including 3 researchers who holds Ph.D. which is equivalent to the capacity of technological research institutes of construction companies that ranks within top 10 in Korea.
AMCO established Technology Research Institute in order to secure motive power for new growth of the company in the future through creative and continuous research and development, and to reduce cost and minimize risks through technological research.
In particular, the company is planning to construct separate company building equipped with main building, residential environment experiment building, material experiment building and construction facility experiment building, and to pursue full scale research in core technology by increasing the research personnel by 2-fold compared to the current number of research personnel.
For this purpose, AMCO Technology Research Institute has the following 3 major core research & development plans this year:
▲ Development of gravity resistant structure system for ultra-high rise ▲ Development of high performance concrete
▲ Preparation of strategy to accomplish investment plans until 2010 though establishment of strategy for improvement of grade of residential performances for improvement of apartment brand name value
In the case of 「Development of gravity resistant structure system for ultra-high rise」, which will realize reduction in height of floors, and 「Development of high performance concrete」, which will be equipped with high-strength, high-performance and high fire resistance, will be applied with priority given to ultra-high rise buildings and large capacity projects that AMCO will be constructing in the future.
AMCO Technology Research Institute, in addition, is planning to make contribution towards winning of government-run projects by assertively participating in research of 「U-Eco City (Ubiquitous Environment City)」 and 「Ultra-high rise composite system」 project group amongst the 10 major execution tasks (VC010) of the innovation roadmap announced by the Ministry of Land, Transportation and Maritime Affairs (formally the Ministry of Construction and Transportation) at the end of December 2006.
A concerned personnel of AMCO Technology Research Institute stated that “the company has been successfully completing large capacity projects in the civil and construction domain through advanced technology including modularization construction method applied to headquarters of Hyundai Motors and F/D (Floating Dock) construction method that has been applied to construction of Dangjin Harbor of Hyundai Steel” and that “the company will continuously expand research & development personnel, and investment, as well as plan to establish new trend in construction technology by putting our utmost efforts in securing of future core technology.”
Technology Research Institute, in addition to research and development, will be providing diverse range of support activities including ▲ management of technology network held by each team within the company ▲ field technology education and support ▲ securing of intellectual rights including patents/new technology ▲ operation of public subscription system for technological development.
AMCO, on the other hand, has proportion of “specialized engineers”, which signifies the holder of the highest technology in the area of construction, which approaches 11% of overall technological personnel of the company
