- 230 new recruits initiated on Feb 28 after 8 weeks of orientation, which included climbing Mt. Odae - Performance on ‘kick start, harmony, innovation, take off’ – establish a foothold to take off to become a global Top Five company - A lot of new hires were recruited for the R&D and Quality Divisions – Master’s degrees, electronic engineering majors localized in the R&D center
On a snowy frigid early morning in January, about 250 people marched across the hills of Mt. Odae and lit up their path. These are the strong young men and women that have been newly recruited at MOBIS and their senior colleagues who have volunteered to be their mentors. Their feet pushed deep into the snow piles along the road as they walked, making their steps and eyelids heavy; but in unison they shouted out that they will complete the trip no matter what and the sounds echo in between the snowcapped wintery hills. The track along the Odae mountain range has become a ritual that all MOBIS recruits must complete, a rite of passage to become part of the company.
MOBIS finished its 8-week orientation session for new recruits from January 3 to February 25 and held a welcoming ceremony at the Amoris Hall in GS Tower in Seoul on February 28. The orientation for the newest employees included programs such as field trips and on-site learning at the manufacturing and research plants, 2-day long Mt. Odae trailing and a variety of other activities.
This year’s open recruitment truly reflected the growing reputation for MOBIS as it has stepped up to the 12th spot in the world automotive parts industry, with a competition of 1:100 for hopeful candidates. Out of the 230 new recruits, over 80 percent have degrees in science and engineering; over 90 percent of the electrical/electronic engineering graduates with Master’s have been placed in the research positions. In an effort to prepare for the era of electric cars and to secure the world’s best quality standards, MOBIS increased its number of hires by 150 percent since last year, mainly focusing on R&D and a quality workforce.
The talent and passion of the new recruits were also apparent in the welcoming event. Following the themes of ‘kick start, harmony, innovation, take off’, they put on a performance that they have practiced for during the short breaks during the orientation weeks. Starting with the dynamic group sports dance number signaling the ‘kick start’ at MOBIS, they then had a vocal ensemble sing together to represent ‘harmony’. A tap dance score and a musical depicted the determination of the new recruits as they move into the world.
Before the performances that day, the new employees and MOBIS executives watched a video of various activities during the orientation and congratulations messages from senior colleagues and MOBIS Phoebus Basketball Team members. Then Vice-Chairman Chung Suk-soo came to personally hand out letters of appointment to the job and badges to the employees and congratulated them in a speech.
In his speech, Vice-Chairman Chung said, “Young and energetic, you are the new growth engine for MOBIS,” and urged the new recruits to “never settle for the status quo and become a key player through self-development, setting a foothold for MOBIS on the road to becoming one of the global Top Five companies specializing in automotive parts.
