Awaiting Hangawi, Korean Thanksgiving Day on August 15 in the lunar calendar, Hyundai E&C is touching lives of the underprivileged by conducting a variety of “sharing” activities.
Korea’s primary builder held an event to celebrate the completion of remodeling of a multicultural cafe and education center in the Migrant Welfare Center located in Nokchon-ri, Namyangju-si, Gyeonggi-do, on September 11. The company’s executive and staff members collected changes of their salaries and donated 200 million won to the construction. The newly built multicultural cafe and education center will help migrant women settle down in Korea as it is expected to contribute to job creation by providing educational opportunities concerning Korean language, Korean culture and job training and to support migrant women in becoming financially independent through the operation of the cafe.
Starting with the foundation of a volunteer group in October 2009, Hyundai E&C started a campaign for subscription to encourage employees to voluntarily donate a bit of their salaries.
Through the campaign more than 500 million won of the “love sharing fund” was collected for a year. The company contributed the money to help poor people at home and abroad by building a communication center in the Philippines, making a donation for the operations and treatment for physically challenged people, supporting children living in neglected neighborhoods in receiving football training and making a contribution for disaster areas.
