On January 3, 2013, Hyundai Motor officially announced that it will be entering the World Rally Championship(WRC).
Michel Nandan, acclaimed ex-Peugeot WRC engineer, was appointed as the team principal for the Hyundai Motor WRC team.
Hyundai Motor had already showcased an interim version of the ‘i20 rally car’ at the Paris Motor Show in 2012, and will further refine the i20 rally car this year before embarking on a full WRC in 2014. Hyundai Motor is the third car manufacturer to form a WRC team, following Volkswagen and Citroen. Hyundai Motor hopes to boost brand recognition and to improve its roadgoing vehicles from the racing experience.
