Hyundai Mobis began operations of its new Chungju plant which was built for production of core components for green vehicles including hybrid electric vehicles, electric vehicles, hydrogen fuel cell vehicles and so on. The new Chungju plant is actually built on the grounds of Hyundai Mobis’ Uiwang plant which has been producing green vehicle components since 2008.Spanning 26,000m² in area, the new Chungju plant is four times larger than the Uiwang plant, with annual production capacity for building enough components for 160,000 hybrid electric vehicles.
The core components produced in the Chungju plant include electric motors, electric systems including inverter/ converters, lithium battery modules, Fuel Cells for hydrogen Fuel Cell electric vehicles, and integrated Fuel Cell modules.
The components produced at the Chungju plant are employed in Hyundai Motor & Kia Motors hybrid electric vehicle models including the Avante(Elantra), the Forte, the Sonata, and the K5 hybrid as well as the Ray EV and ix35 Fuel Cell. The Chungju plant also produces some components for the CNG buses.
