Hyundai E&C developed the automatic concrete curing system which can dramatically reduce possible cracks in the early stage of construction and succeeded in field application.
In the automatic concrete curing system, temperature sensors are inserted between the internal core and the placed concrete face and when the temperature differential rises above the optimum level, the sensor detects it and sends a signal to heat the curing water to prevent concrete cracks. The new system prevents temperature cracks mainly caused by large temperature differentials and drying shrinkage cracks, a consequence of loss of moisture from hardened concrete.
In actuality, Hyundai E&C applied the new technology to civil works conducted at Danjin thermal power plant units 9 and 10 and Yulchon II combined cycle power plant, showing its technical prowess. Hyundai E&C already registered a patent for the newly developed technology at home and is currently applying for patents in two overseas countries.
