World-renowned companies with over 100 years of history such as U.S. 3M, Swedish Electrolux and Dutch Philips were able to survive competition by handing down corporate spirits and seeking changes in them for the better. Hyundai E&C was established as Hyundai Civil Works Company on May 25, 1947. Since then, for over half a century, it has opened a new chapter in Korean construction history, armed with “Hyundai Spirits” including a creative insight, aggressive will and strong drive. After the first overseas construction of Patani-Naratiwat Highway in Thailand in 1965, Korea’s primary builder’s cumulative overseas orders topped 90 billion dollars in 2012. Behind what Hyundai E&C has achieved so far lie creative passion and challenging spirit which are the basis of Hyundai Spirits.
■ We must pursue changes and innovation to survive A complacent company is likely to be left behind in a global competition, even though a distinctive and valuable corporate culture was passed down from its founder and those who were devoted to the company. In the 66th anniversary celebration letter, CEO Jung Soo-hyun encouraged its employees to overcome inertia through relentless changes and innovation by saying that out of top 100 domestic companies in 1965, only 12 have been still running their businesses until 2010.
