Construction began on Unit 2 of the United Arab Emirates’ nuclear power plant. The first concrete ceremony for Unit 2 plant was held at the Barakah nuclear power plant on May 28. The ceremony was attended by Hyundai E&C CEO Jung Soohyun, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Yoon Sang-jick, Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) CEO Mohamed Al Hammadi and Korea Electric Power Corporation CEO Cho Hwan-ik. Starting with pouring first safety concrete into Unit 2 reactor, the ceremony marked the official start of construction. Reportedly, the first concrete was placed about six months earlier than originally planned.
“Armed with over 40 years of experience and know-how accumulated in the construction of nuclear power plants, Hyundae E&C is doing everything possible to carry out the project,” Hyundai E&C’s official said. “Based on mutual trust and cooperation, we’ll make our all-out effort to build one of the safest and most effective nuclear power plants in the world.”
