The fourth-generation Sorento boasts its new, innovative technologies and designs. Here are seven reasons why we should take a look at this model.

Stylish and modern, the new Sorento is the flagship for Kia’s reinvigorated global SUV line-up. With top-notch technologies, convenience, and practicality, thanks to the third-generation platform and the new powertrain, the new Sorento is the result of a collaborative design effort between Kia's worldwide design network. Here are seven essential features that Sorento houses.

1. A Powerful Yet Cost-efficient 2.2-litre ‘Smartstream’ Engine

The first is the Sorento’s new four-cylinder 2.2-litre ‘Smartstream’ diesel engine with a new aluminum block

The first is the Sorento’s new four-cylinder 2.2-litre ‘Smartstream’ diesel engine, producing 202 ps and maximum torque of 45.0kg·m. With a new aluminum block, the new engine is about 38kg lighter compared to that found in the third-generation Sorento.

The outstanding fuel economy(5 seater, 18-inch wheels, based on 2WD) was possible for the new structural design - thanks to the new injector now increased to 2,200bar of fuel pressure and the new technology that creates less friction on crank offset, needle bearing, and camshaft in the engine room. It is also okay with the strict emissions testing, Euro 6 RDE Step 2 to be certified for sale in the UK and Europe.

2. Kia’s New Eight-speed Wet Double-clutch Transmission(8DCT)

Designed to offer the smooth-shifting characteristics of a conventional automatic, the 8DCT enhances fuel efficiency over a conventional eight-speed automatic

Furthermore, it is paired with Kia’s new eight-speed wet double-clutch transmission(8DCT). Designed to offer the smooth-shifting characteristics of a conventional automatic, the 8DCT enhances fuel efficiency over a conventional eight-speed automatic, depending on the application. The power transmission efficiency can be reached up to 93.8%. With the new four-cylinder 2.2-litre ‘Smartstream’ diesel engine and the eight-speed wet double-clutch transmission, Sorento has achieved a groundbreaking combined fuel economy of 14.3 km / l. The 8DCT will also be applied to other Hyundai models.

3. Multi Load Path Structure and Multi-Collision Brake System

KIA engineers focused on strengthening the bodyshell structure while making it even lighter

The Sorento is fitted with upgraded safety features. Throughout the development of the new Sorento, KIA engineers focused on strengthening the bodyshell structure and distributing the impact energy to protect the passengers.

The bodyshell construction features a higher proportion of third-generation 120K Advanced High-Strength Steel and hot-stamped steel components(150K) than its predecessor. The new bodyshell - with a 2.7% increase to tensile strength throughout its structure - is 5.6%(21.3 kg) lighter than that of its predecessor.

The new Sorento also implements Kia’s first Multi-Collision Brake system, which enables the Sorento to mitigate the severity of secondary collisions. It automatically applies vehicle brakes when the airbags have been deployed after an initial collision, further protecting occupants from secondary frontal or side impacts.

4. New Terrain Mode to Be Everywhere

The latest Sorento model offers enhanced all-terrain capability thanks to a new Terrain Mode

New for the fourth-generation, the latest Sorento model offers enhanced all-terrain capability thanks to a new Terrain Mode. Paired with the optional all-wheel-drive system, Terrain Mode makes the Sorento more capable in mud, snow, and sand. With each mode selectable from a dial on the center console, Terrain Mode carefully controls the car. It also adapts transmission shift times to help the car find and maintain

5. Extra Cabin Room

The new platform has created a significant amount of extra cabin room

In profile, the proportions of the Sorento are subtly adapted to make it appear longer. The new model is 10 mm longer than its predecessor, yet it features shorter front and rear overhangs. The additional length is found in the wheelbase(a result of the Sorento’s new third-generation platform), which has grown by 35 mm. And aided by the platform’s longer wheelbase, the second-row seats are put 44 mm higher, creating a wider point of entry to the third row with 9.6% more space for feet and legs.

In particular, the new platform has created a significant amount of extra headroom and the seat tilts back 23 degrees from the vertical for third-row passengers, compared to its processor's 21 degrees. And in seven-seat models, even with all seven seats in place, boot space is also increased by 20% compared to its predecessor, to 187 liters(VDA, based on European models).

6. Split-folding Second-row Seats

The fourth-generation Sorento offers split-folding second-row seats(6-seaters)

The fourth-generation Sorento offers split-folding second-row seats(6-seaters). The second-row seats have Reclining feature for better back tilt, and slide further, creating a wider point of entry to the third row with more space for feet and legs. The cabin also houses a USB charger and a smartphone pocket on the back of first-row seats, side pockets on split-folding second-row seats, and a second-row door armrest cupholder.

7. High-Tech Connectivity for Your Convenient Car Life

The Sorento is also available with Surround View Monitor(Remote 360°) and many other connectivity features

This will be Kia’s most high-tech car ever, thanks to its progressive connectivity, driver assistance, and infotainment technologies. Its user-friendly twin digital displays deliver advanced graphics, new telematics features, and smartphone connectivity. 'Kia Pay' for gas stations or parking lots without requiring any other payment methods, would be one example. The Sorento is also available with Surround View Monitor(Remote 360°).

Artificial Intelligent Kakao-i, Navigation Over-The-Air updates, and Digital Key that can unlock and start the engine just with a smartphone are other state-of-the-art connected features.
