Kia Motors has developed a new integrated infotainment system featuring remote climate control and voice recognition system to boost its presence in the rapidly growing global car infotainment market. Here are two video clips that tell us how Kia Motors will change our lives.
Late in the evening, Flore is one the phone, walking in a building. She is in a good mood, though. And this is because her loving husband is waiting for her in their favorite restaurant. She pauses for a moment to activate Kia Motors’s Connected Car application ‘UVO’ through her smartphone. The app immediately starts the engine and set the cabin temperature at 24 degrees Celsius.
Remote Climate Control allows her to set the desired temperature of FATC (Fully Automatic Temperature Control) along with the duration she wants to keep it on for. The cool breezing cabin will welcome her on hot summer days, and it will greet her with warm air in the coldest winter.
The service provides a convenient feature for Flore who frequently search for places on smartphones. It transmits destinations searched on the internet and UVO Application.
Flore can open doors from outside and start the ignition―all available through a smartphone, even without a car key.
And through the Personalized Profile, the car instantly recognizes the user when the digital key unlocks a door or the user is selected from the infotainment system screen. This enables functions such as seat position, exterior mirrors, infotainment system settings, and driving environment (radio channel, etc.) being automatically set to match the user’s profile.
Here is more. Just through a single text, you may also share the use of the vehicle with up to three other users.
She sits on the driver’s seat, and something automatically appears on the screen. The latest version and data are automatically downloaded when they are uploaded onto the main server. Kia’s new connected cars now download the latest data and software and install it on their own, making it no longer necessary to manually download the data onto a PC and then transfer it to the car.
Gavin calls her, asking where she is now. She shares her destination with her husband by talking to the steering wheel. A unique voice identification feature that recognizes your voice to provide you with any information you want. It comes with the Natural Language Understanding using big data of Kakao-i, which allows you to talk naturally without requiring the use of any specific commands.
Share My car location is a service that allows Flore to easily and quickly share her car’s location with her husband through a single text. The service shares the current location, destination, remaining distance, and estimated time of arrival to a designated person.
Now it’s time to get back home. Using Parking Location Check, the parking spot can be identified by the bilking lights and the horn sound as well as the map on the smartphone. The app will guide them through the Augmented Reality mode so that the couple can just follow the arrows on the screen.
Now Gavin is driving on their way home. When he tagged his smartphone on the door to unlock the car, the Kia Digital Key automatically offers a personalization feature. The seat position, infotainment system, and other equipment settings are adjusted according to Gavin's preset profile. Presets include settings for driver-specific navigation settings and recent destinations, radio stations, and other multimedia settings.
He also checks the score of the game through the infotainment display that he missed during the dinner. A unique voice identification feature recognizes his voice to provide him with necessary information on the date, time, and weather. And when Gavin sets the destination through the voice command, the navigation shows the optimal route to home.
On the way home, Flore activates Car to Home. Through this feature, she can get access to the 'Internet of Things' devices in her house while she is in the car. As she commands, the application sets the house temperature at 23 degrees Celcius and lights up the living room.
On their way home, the wife suddenly wants to listen to different music, not what her husband is listening to right now. The linking of two Bluetooth devices allows the driver and passengers to independently choose the desired function or music at the same time. Without hesitation, she presses the play button from her own playlist.
The couple comes back home, using the state-of-the-art infotainment system. Tons of these infotainment features will indeed change our daily lives. Our car will transform into a smart device, a guide, a secretary, and a friend. The system will offer valuable services that the drivers can enjoy. The innovation has already begun. Let’s see what these systems will bring to us.
