Hyundai Motor Company has unveiled a teaser presenting the first battery electric vehicle(BEV) IONIQ 5 from its EV exclusive brand IONIQ. The video shows us the characteristics of the exclusive EV that Hyundai is introducing for the first time.

With the launch of EV exclusive brand IONIQ last year, Hyundai unveiled the IONIQ 5, the brand's first model this year. The IONIQ 5 is an EV exclusive model inheriting the spirit of the EV Concept 45, and is the first next-generation EV to house E-GMP, a platform exclusively for EVs designed by Hyundai Motor Group. Prior to the full-scale release of IONIQ 5, Hyundai released five videos including the IONIQ 5 teaser through its global YouTube channel. These videos show what makes the company's first EV IONIQ 5 different from its competitors.

The new horizon of EV

'The new horizon of EV', a 30-second teaser filled with graphic motion, introduces the three distinctive features of the IONIQ 5. The first feature is 'Extra power for life', which shows three dots on a white background, symbolizing a plug, that represents V2L (Vehicle to Load; it allows the vehicles to freely use electricity that is stored in their batteries). Current EVs could only use electrical energy to power itself, but the next-generation EV, IONIQ 5, implies that it can power other electronic devices not only inside the vehicle but also outside the vehicle using the V2L system.

The second feature is 'Extra time for you', which emphasizes the super-fast charging function. The video shows how the battery's charge is rapidly filling up, which can save up valuable time in your everyday life. In fact, E-GMP, an electric vehicle platform that will be installed in the IONIC 5, has an 800V charging system and can be charged up to 80% within 18 minutes using a super-fast charger. In addition, it is expected to provide revolutionary convenience with a 100km of range with only a 5-minute charge.

The third feature is 'Extraordinary experience', which implies not only the new experiences that EVs can offer, such as V2L and super-fast charging system, but also the new lifestyle that IONIQ 5 will offer to customers.

This video is a simple yet symbolic representation of the main characteristics of the all-electric vehicle using parametric pixels as its motif, the design identity of Hyundai's all-electric vehicle.

Ultimate Camping

The three episodes of the ‘Ultimate Camping’ video shows that if you use the V2L system of IONIQ 5, you can enjoy a new and special camping experience that you have never had before. The people in each video enjoy luxury camping with large electric ovens, high-end speakers, and treadmills that haven't been used in traditional camping. The power lines of these large electronic devices are connected to the V2L system installed on the outside of the IONIQ 5.

Until now, EVs were able to charge only one-way charging from the outside of the vehicle using an OBC (On-Board Charger). However, IONIQ equipped with an EV platform called E-GMP, can supply power through an integrated charging control unit (ICCU) and vehicle charging management system (VCMS) without additional equipment. The video might seem to exaggerate what they can do, but it is not.

The video then finally features how IONIQ 5 with the symbolic parametric pixels on the brake lights actually looks like, raising expectations for the IONIQ 5 to be released this year.

5-MIN CHALLENGE

The ‘5-Minute Challenge’ video delightfully unravels the IONIC 5's fast-charging system. By comparing the charging speed of the IONIQ 5 with that of other electronic devices such as mobile phones, laptops, and action cams, it emphasizes that the IONIC 5 can run long distances after only a brief charge.

The four people in the video each start charging an IONIQ 5, a smartphone, a laptop, and an action camera, for only 5 minutes - and then see which survives the longest. Each is introduced along with suspenseful background music and an exaggerated narration, just like a Hollywood movie trailer. And the four participants in the IONIC 5 look all stunned as the vehicle travels over 100km with just a 5-minute charge.

Hyundai Motor Company, featuring the upcoming IONIQ 5 through five videos, plans to release the IONIQ 6 in 2022 and the IONIQ 7 in 2024.
