The significance of a car’s interior space is poised to grow exponentially. As vehicles become venues for content consumption on the move, the demand for large displays is surging. Let’s dive into Hyundai Mobis’s innovative display series, crafted for the future.

In the impending era of autonomous driving and Purpose Built Vehicles (PBV), the sanctum of a car’s interior will gain paramount importance. Imagine reshaping a generous space to your liking, attending to work or basking in leisure instead of navigating the roads. Such a paradigm shift heralds not only a transformation in interior design but also escalates the demand for vehicle-mounted large displays, optimizing enjoying content.

In anticipation of this future, Hyundai Mobis is at the forefront, pioneering a myriad of display technologies. The ‘Innovative Display’ series unveiled at CES 2024 stands as a testament to their ongoing commitment to cutting-edge vehicular displays. Building on their legacy, Hyundai Mobis introduced the world’s first ‘Swivel Display’ for vehicles in 2022, followed by the groundbreaking ‘Rollable Display’ in 2023.

Transparent Displays Utilizing Holographic Technology

The ‘Transparent Display,’ showcased for the first time at CES 2024 by Hyundai Mobis, employs holographic optical element technology. This marvel is characterized by its ability to project crisp visuals onto a transparent panel, reducing the screen’s obstruction of the window and enhancing the sense of openness by allowing the landscape beyond to meld with the displayed content.

This transparent display can also be integrated into the vehicle’s windshield, enabling drivers to access various information without significantly diverting their gaze, thereby enhancing safety. This novel approach has the potential to revolutionize interior design in mass-produced vehicles.

Swivel Displays: Adapting to Your Needs

The automobile has continuously evolved with technological advancements, and so will the future of vehicular displays. Hyundai Mobis showcases an array of innovative displays for this very reason. The Swivel Display, for instance, moves vertically, allowing for partial or full screen utilization based on the situation.

The push for developing adaptable technologies stems from the trend towards larger displays. The Swivel Display developed by Hyundai Mobis in 2022 features a 34-inch screen utilizing a 6K OLED panel. Traditional fixed displays of this size would inevitably obstruct the passenger’s view. Hence, Hyundai Mobis innovated a solution that exposes only the necessary portion of the display, marrying the desire for large screens with the need for unimpeded visibility.

The single wide screen of Hyundai Mobis’s Swivel Display stretches from the driver to the passenger side, offering a platform for various contents like driving data, navigation, music, and videos. Utilizing the entire screen ensures an immersive experience.

Rollable Displays: Adapting Screen Size to the Situation

Hyundai Mobis’s Rollable Display, unveiled in 2023, literally rolls away when not in use. When the engine is off, the screen vanishes. While driving, only a third of the screen displays essential driving information. In navigation mode, two-thirds of the screen shows the map. And in stationary situations like charging, the full screen can be used for entertainment.

With a resolution of QHD or higher and the potential for a 30-inch screen, the Rollable Display offers versatility similar to the Swivel Display but with the added benefit of minimized installation space. The required depth for installation, at a mere 12cm, is minimal. Moreover, the Rollable Display can be mounted to descend from the ceiling, offering a large viewing screen.

New Control Methods for Large Screens

As screens enlarge, control methods must evolve. Depending on the monitor’s location and size, touch functionality might not be feasible. Hyundai Mobis’s ‘Quick Menu Selection’ allows system control with mere finger movements, and ‘Air Gesture’ enables screen changes with a wave of the hand.

A central controller remains an option. Using a beam projector to cast the display onto the controller allows for touch-based operation of various functions without reaching for the screen, offering convenience and versatility.

Hyundai Mobis: Driving Mobility Innovation through Technological Integration

Vehicle displays demand durability and reliability beyond ordinary screens, maintaining performance throughout the car’s lifespan and enduring vibrations and shocks while on the move. Hyundai Mobis’s display series overcomes these challenges through technological prowess.

This unique developmental capability didn’t emerge overnight but was built over years, encompassing software, semiconductors, integrated controls, and E/E architecture. Hyundai Mobis aims to revolutionize mobility by merging these technologies, focusing on user safety, comfort, and environmental sustainability while shaping a new mobility ecosystem.

Exploring Hyundai Mobis’s cutting-edge display series opens up a realm of possibilities for the autonomous driving era. Envision conducting business or immersing yourself in your favorite movies and games on expansive screens within your vehicle. Such advancements could transform the very essence of ‘travel’, enriching the experience beyond mere transit. Hyundai Mobis’s display technology is set to revolutionize the automotive world, soon enabling us to indulge in captivating, lifelike content from the comfort of our cars.
