to provide universal safety to more customers and deliver optional convenience functions in response to their demands.

Urban Autonomous Driving
Hyundai Motor Group successfully conducted a test drive of Genesis in the city of Seoul to demonstrate its autonomous driving technology.
And, in January 2017, an IONIQ that was fitted with a level 4
‘total autonomous driving feature’ successfully conducted a night-time autonomous driving test in Las Vegas, USA.

Flawless autonomous driving in heavy urban traffic environment

In 2010, our first autonomous vehicle, ‘Tucson ix autonomous vehicle’ was introduced as a demo-car. This ‘Tucson ix autonomous vehicle’ succeeded in a test drive over a segment of 4k, which contained paved and non-paved sections and consisted of nine different missions including a checkpoint, cross-walk, and accident zones. With this success, our journey of developing autonomous driving technology began in earnest.

This was followed by our acquisition of a license to operate autonomous vehicles in the highways of Nevada for our Tucson hydro-electric cars in December 2015. And, in 2016, we even acquired the license for autonomous driving in South Korean roads, as well, in recognition for our autonomous driving technology.

Especially in November 2016, we unveiled our ‘IONIQ autonomous vehicle’ with SAE level 4 autonomy at the LA Auto Show. In December, we successfully completed a day time and night time downtown test drive in Las Vegas, proving the superb technical capabilities of Hyundai Motors.
