Kia has officially launched its new dedicated electric vehicle, the Kia EV3, to the world. After generating much anticipation through teaser images, the EV3 has now been fully revealed. Following the EV6 in 2021 and the EV9 in 2023, the Kia EV3 is the third model in Kia's dedicated electric vehicle lineup, playing a crucial role in popularizing electric cars. With its debut, the Kia EV3 has garnered significant attention in the highly competitive global electric vehicle market.
The newly unveiled Kia EV3 is full of exceptional features that meet high expectations. Its innovative style reflects the latest capabilities of Kia's design team. Let's delve into the captivating qualities of the Kia EV3, which is set to accelerate the popularization of electric vehicles.
As its name suggests,
the EV3 is a compact SUV within Kia's electrification lineup. However, the EV3
delivers performance that transcends its class, thanks to Kia's superior
electrification technology. The EV3 is available in two models based on driving
range: the Standard model and the Long Range model, both equipped with the
fourth-generation high-voltage battery. The Long Range model features an
81.4kWh battery, targeting a domestic certification driving range of over 501
km on a single charge (Long Range model, 17-inch wheel).
Both the Standard and Long Range models of the EV3 house an electric motor under the hood, delivering a maximum output of 150kW and a peak torque of 283Nm. The Standard model can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.5 seconds, providing ample power for the road (based on internal measurements). Its charging capabilities are also impressive, with the Long Range model's battery capable of charging from 10% to 80% in just 31 minutes using a 350kW charger.
Built on the Hyundai
Motor Group's dedicated electric vehicle platform E-GMP, which is adaptable to
various vehicle sizes, the Kia EV3 boasts a long wheelbase for enhanced
interior space and driving stability, and optimized electronic component
packaging to accommodate a large battery. Newly developed aerodynamic elements
also contribute to the EV3's efficiency. Covering 79.1% of the underbody with a
full under cover to improve electric efficiency, the EV3 also features a wide
front track, wheel arch gap reducers, aerodynamic wheels, lower bumper
spoilers, and active air flaps to maximize driving range.
Designed according to
Kia's design philosophy "Opposites United," the EV3 showcases an
innovative look that leaves a strong first impression. Based on the theme
"Joy for Reason," one of the five attributes of the Opposites United
philosophy, the EV3's exterior design blends logical and emotional styles with
enhanced volume and striking graphics.
The front of the EV3
exudes a robust appearance with its clean surfaces and enhanced volume. The
daytime running lights feature Kia's iconic star map signature lighting, while
the new tiger face, combining vertical lamps with three-dimensional surfaces,
highlights a strong image.
The geometric body and
dynamic roofline align with the "Joy for Reason" theme, while the
unique graphics and sharp patterns of the 19-inch wheels convey a futuristic
image. The harmonious combination of a voluminous cabin and a low roofline
creates a sleek silhouette, complemented by rear door handles integrated with
the garnish for a clean appearance.
The rear of the EV3
reflects the sturdy and commanding image of an SUV. The boxy, angular shapes
and surfaces exude a strong presence, while the separated C-pillar smoothly
connects with the broad shoulder line for a stable stance. The tail lamps,
incorporating the star map signature lighting, enhance the futuristic feel.
Entering the EV3's
interior, one is greeted with a minimalist layout and modern ambiance. The
interior is designed to meet various usability needs of customers and can be
personalized to suit individual preferences. The crash pad, characterized by
clean lines and long, wide surfaces, offers a strong sense of visual space, and
the intricate details throughout the interior highlight the unique charm of the
EV3.
The cozy interior space
is equipped with advanced features, with the highlight being the panoramic wide
display. This display consists of a 12.3-inch cluster, a 5-inch HVAC display,
and a 12.3-inch infotainment system, balancing functionality and usability.
Additionally, a 12-inch windshield-type head-up display (HUD) allows EV3
customers to fully enjoy advanced features.
The
EV3’s cockpit is characterized by a warm and cozy
atmosphere akin to home interior decor. The extensive use of mood lighting
transforms the space into a more emotional environment at night. The center
console features the EV3's unique sliding console table, which can be used as a
mini table during charging or when taking a break in the vehicle, providing
practical utility.
The Kia EV3 has been
designed with the characteristics of a dedicated electric vehicle in mind,
resulting in outstanding driving quality. Firstly, the front suspension has
been newly designed to accommodate the powerful torque and low center of
gravity of the electrified powertrain. The EV3 also features third-generation
frequency-sensing valve shock absorbers, hydro bushings, and a reinforced cowl
crossbar connecting the body and steering components to ensure a comfortable
ride and excellent R&H - ride and handling - performance.
Another standout feature
of the EV3 is its superior NVH performance. Given the absence of engine
vibrations and noise in electric vehicles, the EV3 focuses on enhancing NVH
performance. Notably, sound-absorbing materials have been extensively applied
to the roof, wheelhouses, cowl area, underbody, dashboard, electric motor, and
inverter cover. The thickness of the glass in the first and second rows has
been increased, not to mention the enhanced body joint rigidity to minimize
noise and vibration.
Regenerative braking is
another feature to watch for in the EV3. For the first time, Kia has applied a
front-wheel-based high-deceleration regenerative braking system to improve
energy recovery rates and reduce brake heat load. The regenerative braking amount
reaches up to 0.3G, outperforming other electric vehicles in its class.
Additionally, the EV3 features the i-Pedal 3.0 logic, a first for Hyundai Motor
Group, allowing acceleration, deceleration, and stopping using only the
accelerator pedal. The new logic is available at all regenerative braking
levels, enhancing driving convenience and ride comfort.
One of the most
appealing aspects of the Kia EV3 is its incorporation of advanced technology.
The EV3 is the first among Kia's electrified models to feature the "Kia AI
Assistant," which integrates generative AI technology. This voice
assistant function communicates using natural language and provides navigation,
vehicle usage, travel information, entertainment, and knowledge information.
The entertainment features suitable for the panoramic display also stand out.
The EV3's infotainment system supports OTT services, such as YouTube, allowing
users to enjoy various content on a 12.3-inch display with a Harman Kardon
premium sound system.
The EV3 is equipped with
numerous advanced driver assistance systems to enhance safety and convenience
while driving. These include Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist 2, Blind-Spot
Collision-Avoidance Assist, Safe Exit Warning, Intelligent Speed Limit Assist,
Driver Attention Warning, and High Beam Assist. These latest Kia safety features
help ensure customers can drive with peace of mind. The vehicle also
incorporates a direct grip detection system (HOD) that uses current to detect
the driver's grip on the steering wheel, allowing for more convenient use of
ADAS systems.
In addition, the EV3
features the latest connectivity equipment, such as over-the-air (OTA) software
updates to improve major vehicle functions, the Built-in Cam 2 driving video
recorder, and Digital Key 2, which allows access and starting the vehicle using
a smartphone or wearable smart device. With these advanced features, the EV3
aims to provide a more valuable electric vehicle experience based on high
customer preferences.
The introduction of the
Kia EV3 holds significant meaning in the rapidly expanding global electric
vehicle market. The rational and practical EV3 is breaking down barriers to
electric vehicle entry, embracing advanced electrification technology and
high-demand advanced features to offer a more valuable electric vehicle experience.
The EV3, which will deliver new value in the era of electrified mobility, is
set to energize the global electric vehicle market.
